Help! I think I'm getting screwed!
I took my car to dealership for 80K maintenance. While it was there they told me it needed a new water pump and cam shaft adjuster (and a few other odds and ends). When it was all said and done, it cost me over $1,800. My understanding was that the reason this was so expensive was because they basically had to take everything out from under the hood. Two wks later, my car started missing, engine light came on, oil light came on, followed by a very loud noise. I had to have my car towed to the dealership to learn that my turbo is shot! Dealership claims this has nothing to do with the work they did and wants $2,500 to fix the turbo! My car is in regularly for its maintenance and is treated well, am I to believe this is a coincidence? I don't think so? How do I prove otherwise? Please help. I know nothing about cars, but I definitely feel I am getting screwed and am not going down without a fight!
If you wan't to prove/disprove thier claims you need to have someone drain the oil and examine it to look for any debris or crap that could have clogged up the oil flow to the turbo. I would NOT take it to the same shop for this, lets say they take off the turbo and they see some gasket material in the oil line to the turbo starving it from oil, they would probably look the other way and throw that in the trash, see what im saying? Take it to another shop for another opinion, they may find something different and just maybe get you a free turbo.

I had a CEL come on right after a simple safety inspection. Came back as "engine coolant temperature circuit reading high input" (P0118). Cleared it, and it hasn't come back since. I suspect that can be triggered by jumping the CTS to +voltage, but can't prove that they were the cause.
As for your predicament, grab some tools and a book, maybe find someone in the area who will help you out for beer or lunch or something.
