Default Am i being screwed?

I've been doing some search onthe forum about the P0741 code
i am having this code. I dropped the car to the shop in the morning. The dealer guy says around $3K just for a torque converter change. Is that normal? Or AM I BEING SCREWED?

I am pissed. You get new tip tranny for $4K. Isn't $3K too much?

you know how dealers are with parts and their prices, buy your own converter from a online parts store and watch their price go down, and then bug them about how long their install and labour are... it will work out.

working in a dealership myself, yes you are being screwed, anyone who goes into a dealership not knowing much about cars is gona get screwed. not only will we usually over charge you for parts that we get at cost a lot of the time, but we will also charge you a standard labor time regardless of how long it takes. an oil change charges 45 minutes labor yet i do it in about 15, including lifting it and parking it afterwards. so yea definitely buy the parts yourself and ask them whos doing the job, then talk to the guy and try to figure how long it will take with his skill level, and argue with them from there. it kind of sucks for the mechanic because the dealership takes most of the labor costs for themselves and the mechanic usually gets royally screwed but thats just how things work. unless your a master tech then you can usually bend them on pricing to how much you want for a job.

I just talked to the service guy. they say they don't see a P0741 code. Is it possible that the code itself disappear?

if thats a check engine code then yea its possible. i know that my car and a few others ive heard of have an annoying little habbit of popping those up for no reason and then just going away.

yeh roborabbit bein a master tech would be nice, the bad part is that if you are you cant turn down any job even if you dont have your Master in that section.

but for the post don't damn the stealerships, the parts they use were made for the car in the first place and 90% of the techs have been trained to work on those cars or have had enough time to know the car back to front

thats why you dont go to stealerships for example audi of nashua here wanted 1600 for a job that another shop around here did for 950 which is status auto the guy is a audi mastermind and his prices are alot more reasonable then a stealership so u need to find an indepepndent shop in your town that specializes in audis. if your in new hampshire or around there the u need to go to www.statusauto.com he is the best!!!!!!!!

watever it is goodluck bro..hope everything works out for you.
