HELP ME PLEASE!!!
F_CK, F_CK, F_CK.... so i take the camshaft holding tool off so i can put the new timing belt on. as i go to put it on, and im not really pulling too hard, the left camshaft all of a sudden rotates maybe 50 degrees clockwise. so now the two camshafts are not in the same position, one has rotated more than the other. i have a feeling im completely screwed here, what do i do/can i do??
reset the cams then put the tool back on to ensure its lined up and fit the belt ( don't remove the tool till the belt is fitted and tensioned) then 2 rotations to make sure the lines still line up and a final check if the tension need adjusting
your not the first person to do that
your not the first person to do that
yeah i used a straight edge and marked TDC markes so i know where the cams need to be. so should i just rotate the one on the left so it is lined up and then start over?? because right now the two are like 50 degrees off from each other.

You know,
I hate to say this, but I told you yesterday about 5 times to mark the cams in case they move.
Sounds like you did not mark the cams.
look for the stock cam markings and line everything up to top dead center. Your manual should have pretty in depth info on how to find TDC and line everything up.
Good luck.

Looks like you got the fan of, good job.
I am sorry I dont know the details of the 2.8 TB change. I had similar issues on my 1.8, because my belt I think jumped a tooth or two when the tensioner broke.
My advice would be to get either a haynes manual or bently manual on the car. It has instructions on how to line everything up.
Mine had a mark on the engine block behind the top cam to line up Top Dead center. Then, then was a mark on the dampner pulley that lined up with a mark on the t-belt cover for the alignment of the crankshaft.
I used these marks to make sure everything was lined up before putting the belt on.
I am sure yours is a similar process, but for $15 a haynes manual is an invaluable tool to have at your disposal.
I am sure someone whos has done this will chime in and tell you where the marks are for the cams and crankshaft. I think Dave already mentioned the marks for the top cams, but you may want to check the crankshaft alignment as well to make sure all is good.
