16518/P0134 is a bad O2 sensor. That will cause the fuel mixture to be off. Not sure what year you are, I've got a 2000 1.8tqm, engine code ATW. On the ATW and AEB 1.8t's there are two O2 sensors, one upstream of the cat and one down stream of the cat. They analyze the amount of unburnt fuel in your exhaust and subsequently adjust the fule mixture accordingly. Less air, the mixture is rich, too much air, running lean. Running rich, your MPG plummets, running lean, you can lose performance. The perfect mixutre for gasoline is about 14:7:1. Replace both of them, that cleared up that error code on mine. The upstream is easy to get to, the downstream on the other hand, not so easy. The parts are about $130ish a piece. I'm not sure on the labor, I did mine myself. Make sure wherever yu get them from you specify what engine code you have!!! Otherwise they'll likely send you an O2 sensor for a Fiat, or something.... PM me you engine code, I'll get you the part numbers you need,

hi,

thanx heaps for that reply, however ive taken it to a mechanic he said the rich fuel mixture is happening before the cat system as its giving my spark plugs a different color and other noticable facts... do u think its more then likely the o2 sensor? nothing else? ive tried simple stuff like changing air filter

the failed o2 sensors will make your whole system run rich, not just after the cats.

ah okay i had a feeling it was the o2 sensor, okay i tried to find "Group 032" in engine, using vag-com but that returned error, wanted to know the mixture... could it be the MAF?

or that code defenitly means o2?

assuming that this section of the fault code is giving away the o2 sensor is gone:

16518 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: No Activity
P0134 - 35-00 - -

is there anyway to know which of the 2 is gone? if there are two o2 sensors on the n/a audi a4... i dont wanna replace both

It is the upstream one. The downstream O2 sensor is used to determine that the catalyst is working.
