Default How can I do ? bad mechanic

Dear Audi lovers,
I have 1997 Audi A4 1.8T and live in Toronto.

Today I have experienced very bad situation so that I want some advice.
One month ago, I changed the valve cover gasket and paid $400.
Then, there was a smok from the engine. So I went to that shop twice.
The mechanic just put silicon between the gasket.

A day ago, the back side of engine leaked so that I went to the shop.
He said he couldn't help and you can do whatever you want.
For example, legal or anything.

Also, when he changed the tie rod ends, he charged the alignment. But I had to realign.
How can I do? I am very upset.

If he charged you $400 for a valve cover gasket you need to first beat the ever loving **** out of him, and then find a new mechanic. Its a $20 part that takes about an hour to do. I dont think there is much legaly that you can do about it... So its best to resort to physical violence...

it sounds like you got ripped off twice ($400 for a rocker cover gasket) I doubt he even changed it by the sound of it and have a look at the tie rods to see if they are new

Get quotes from other shops for the same work, get a quote from the dealer and compare I know you have been over charged but you need to have proof of it.. take the proof to the guy, and try and scare him a little, say your going to contact the better business bureau, and the attorney state general. Tell him your going to contact the local paper and do all that it is in your power to make sure unless you are satisfied that he will loose business.. that is about all you can do..

you could stick flyer's on every post/window informing people of his shocking workmanship and how he treats his bread and butter (customers) that should take its toll or at least put an end to his career of deception and dishonesty

Wait you changed the a valve cover gasket for $400, talk about a wallet raping. Anyways you say you have smog coming from the engine, what color, does it idle normaly? Could be something as big as the head gasket (not to be confused with the valve cover), CVT, or faulty internals. I won't go into detail about that. Go to a german vehicle mechanic or dealership and have them check it out.
