i am a dunce...clutch question
hi people..
being that i'm looking for an a4 and that i've never owned a manual tranny car before...i was just wondering if there are certain things that i should be on the lookout for regarding the clutch...i mean a clutch may seem fine to me only cause i don't know what to be paying attention to...but i don't wanna get a car and have it turn out that the clutch needs to be replaced because the previous owner f*cked it up...
so, any insight on things that i should be particularly aware of would be great.

RE: i am a dunce...clutch question
the clutch is going to feel soft compared to most cars....but i guess if you have nothing to compare it to, you won't notice....i would suggest driving as many friends/family members' manual cars as possible before taking an a4 for a test drive, just so you can feel the difference between a fresh clutch and a worn clutch...one test you can do, although the owner probably wouldn't appreciate it if they're in the car with you, is to drop the clutch at a stop. if the car jumps and dies immediately, you're in good shape..if it hops forward and sputters, it's getting worn, if it hops and doesn't stall at all, it's on its last leg...

see how high the pedal releases. the higher it releases the more wear it has. i'm at 97k miles and counting on the original clutch if that helps at all ... and i'm known to dump it every now and then.
good luck!
good luck!
