Default I have a few questions for you audi experts out there!

I got a 96 audi A4 quattro 2.8v6. 96000 miles. My first question is...The car has thrown a CEL for what i think is a cloged egr valve. I was wondering ifmy gas mileage will get better after i take it all apart and clean it up? it gets around 305 miles to a tank right now. My next question is what type of oil is recommeded to go in the 2.8 litre v6? The previous owner lost the onwers manual and somone had wrote under the hood to use 20w50. I figured that might be too think for the engine but it does have a small drippy oil leak and I thought maybe thats why they used such thick oil. i have also noticed that if i was the front and rear rims, after about a week of driving it looks like there is a small leak somwhere near the break caliper..I see what appears to be break fluid all over my rims..Was there a problem withthe breaks on the 96 model A4's. I knwo you guys have probably been asked these questions a million times and I am sorry for being the one million and one persont o ask them. i am new to audis and dont knwo much about them. Thanks...RYAN

Welcome, Have any pictures of it? My first audi was a 96 2.8 5speed Quattro. What color is yours?

As for your troubles, oil wise, I used 5w30 in mine. I am betting that cleaning the EGR will help gas milage wise. I am not sure. Mine had the same thing but I sold it before i fixed it. As for the brake fluid, do your brakes feel weird at all? I would have that one checked out soon. You don't really want to loose your brakes. That would suck. Where is your oil leak at? If you can't find it. Place a piece of cardboard on your driveway floor and see where its dripping at. That will help you find it.

My cars color is black with tan/ and black interior. Isn't 5w30 synthethic oil. I heard that would be bad to put in a car with more than 50 thousand miles. I also heard it might make the oil leak worse. What about 10w30? I knwo I woudl get better gas mialege if i used that. the guys at the auto parts store gave me a bottle of this oil leakl stop stuff....I bought it, but i have always been kind of hesitant to put stuff like that in my engine. Any thoughts?

Yeah 10w30 works as well. I have never heard of synthetic oil being bad on an engine w/over 50K miles. I am about to turn 100K on mine and use 0w40 full syn in mine. Never had a problem.

I would not put that oil leak stop stuff in but thats just me.

it can be
I heard that would be bad to put in a car with more than 50 thousand miles.
oh really? i better stop using synthetic then.
I also heard it might make the oil leak worse.
dont know about that
What about 10w30?
no different from 5w30, except it has a higher temp rating, the weight is what makes it better or worse for your application. i tend to use a bit thicker viscosity oil with higher mileage cars, if you run 40 weight it will benefit you.
