OK help!! I got a 99 A4 2.8 Quatrro 5 speed. When I am driving it runs great but when I push in the clutch and come to a stop ( basicly when I come to an idle)... the RPM's just bounce up and down from 400 to 900 and then dies quite often. I dont even know where to start looking. This has come up along side my exaust having a leak and having my headlights not work ( already read up on that one ) so I am getting kinda stressed out with all this stuff going wrong with this car. Any help would be great. Thankyou

 

MAF or fuel pump

 

Sorry not to sound to dumb... but what is a MAF?

 

Mass Air Flowsensor. it's the thing with a plug going to it between the flexible hose and the airbox

 

thing comming off the air box going into the engine, its alluminum and has a black squar thing with a plug on it. someone unpluged mine and it did the same thing. yeah iduno....

Cant you set/adjust the idler at like 1,000

 

Maybe... clean the MAF, but seriously it's probably idle control valve - as that's what controls the idle when coming to a stop. Clean that and see what happens.

 

Yeah, the thing that meters the air from the airbox to the throttle body....
