I'm thinking abt buying:1999 A4 V6 2.8L 5 speed
The mileage is around 63000,is a one owner car and has a clean title. I'm getting a good price on, around 1K below the KBB value. Now the question is how reliable are Audis and how expensive are they to maintain? I've been trying to look up the reviews on the a4's but very few have commented in the v6 2.8L version. In your opinion, are they built to last a long time? (i want to keep it for the next 5 years, hopefully problem free)
Thanks!
Thanks!
they are built to last if they are cared for properly. the 2.8 liter is one of audis more reliable engines, but if you want to do any modding, you want the 1.8T, although it is less reliable. maintenance is more expensive than a honda, but not as much as, say, a mercedes. if you are knowledgable in auto repairs, they are surprisingly easy to work on yourself (due to the fact that they're made by volkswagon)
repairs are not as bad if you find a local shop that fixes imports. Timing belt will need to be done within that 5 year time as wells as other maten. so you will end up putting money into the car if you want something that is good for trans. and cheap to own pry should get something else
Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of heplful and friendly people signed on.
You can also find lots of information by checking the forum archives which can address your question.
Briefly, the audis are great cars, but no one comes close to the reliability of Hondas or Toyotas. Both OEM and aftermarket parts are more expensive than either of the above brands.
If you are looking for cheap, reliable, comfortable, no frills transportation I'd stick with Japanese.
