important timing belt change, why?
why is it so important to replace the timing belt before it breaks on these audi's? i broke my timing belt on my mr2 doing 70+mph, everything just shut off, towed it to my mechanic, put new belt on, was on the road again. no motor probs or anything. i belive if it aint broke, dont fix it.
Dpeends, most of the failures are due to failure of the timing belt tensioner. The tensioner has been updated to a more reliable design. My car recommends 105K miles to do it (2000 ATW engine). That said, I replaced everything at 80K miles, including the front seals.
Better safe than sorry.
