Yea, ignition coil was on my list of possible cause. Just funny that if coil is bad, you would think that it idle bad and misfire under normal driving conditiions and not just under heavy boost.

 

They tend to satrt to fail after you chip the car and push them harder than they were being used before the chip.
I can see them idling normal, and satrting to fail under hard acceleration, when the engine is calling for more rapid sparking.

 

I had the exact same problem and once I changed my spark plugs, the problem went away. Use the search on these forums to find a word "surge" for a bunch of info on the problem. Then do a search on spark plugs, so that you get the right ones. Don't worry about it...they were less than 10 bucks from ecstuning.com. I just can't remember the exact name right now, otherwise I would tell you what plugs to get. I guess the problem has something to do with the gapping of the plugs. Since your friend is chipped now....the gap needs to be smaller (.28 instead of .30). I hope this helps man.

 

Now that I re-read this, it seems like onepoint8tee had a similar issue, and it was his plugs. One of them had a hairline crack in the ceramic part.

 

Can you do an ohm reading off the coil to see if its bad? If so, that would eliminate the coil I guess and lead to the spark plug being bad. But than again, I think the coil can give you a good reading and still be bad correct?
