just purchased an a4, what upgrades next?
Hey guys, I just purchased a 97 a4 1.8t quattro w/ 70k miles. It already has a greddy boost controller, a greddy turbo timer, a remus exhaust from the turbo back(no cat) and supposedly an upgraded turbo. I thought that it was stock when I went to look at it, and found all of this stuff. The only reason I bought it was because I couldnt pass up this car for 5k$, with a brand new tranny w/ warranty. Anyways, the boost controller on the engine is hooked up, but the wires that run to the internal boost controller are cut and the actual internal controller is gone. I am about to buy the greddy controller, but will I be able to run more than stock boost on the larger turbo without an intercooler? And what other upgrades would be good. Any input from you guys would be great.
Thanks. Josh
Thanks. Josh
I will take pics of it. But I have no idea what turbo it is. I thought i was stock until the guy said it was upgraded. But when I drove it, it didnt spool until about 3k and only pulled to 3500k then just stayed the same....like it was only running a low amount of boost. But maybe that is how it always feels...I wouldnt know...its my first 1.8t a4.
The first thing to do is make sure it is running OK. You have no idea how the previous owner treated the car.
Swap out all the fluids, air filter, plugs, run a vagcom for codes, get the service records if possible. You are coming up to time for a timing belt change, etc. Start saving up some money and plan on spending about 1200 dollars to get your car in shape and for the timing belt before you start upgrading. No sense upgrading a car, only to have it break.
