Default Lessons learned on replacing wiper blades on 03 A4

I recently replaced the wiper blade refills on my 03 Audi A4. The little clip that holds the blade in place is plastic and was pretty tough to release on my car. Well, I pulled on the blade before the plastic clip was fully released and I broke it. Why is this stupid thing plastic? Anyway, now the only thing holding the blade in place is the spring pressing it against the windshield in the closed position. I fear that when I use them that the blade will pop out and the windshield will get scratched. Does anyone know if that plastic clip can be replaced, or am I going to have to replace the whole arm? Audi would love to get more of my money and teach me to leave the work to their professionals!

Thanks,

The clip should be on the blade. Cost is 5 dollars for a new blade. The arm should be fine

I replied to his thread in the new member section. David, are you referring to the replacement fillers for the B5 or B6?? Just last Oct I was attempting to change the wiper filler when my clip broke. I searched every where for the filler w/clip and most shops had the filler but minus the clip. So I went to Audi and unfortunately I had to replace the arm which had the clip attached to it.

Sounds like you know exactly what I am talking about. The clip is definately on the arm and it holds the blade in place. However, it looks like it is made to be replaced but it is hard to see exactly how. Once I saw it break, I worked the passenger side more carefully and realized the clip must be pushed in all the way for it to easily release the blade. I saw how to remove the arm from another site and I might do that to mess with the clip it a little more. I was hoping a web search might turn up something as my local Audi service deosn't like me asking all these questions. I might be able to explain the problem to the parts guy and see if there is a replacement part.

Thanks,

I think you'll come up empty searching just for a clip. Unless the dealerships are recently starting to stock those clips, you will definetely have to replace the arm. It costed 35 Euros thats about 27 to 30 dollars.

If you don't have 50K mi and not 4 years old, have them do it under warranty.

Thanks, I'm gonna try this as I have 33K miles, but I was afraid they would hassle me for breaking it. I was just planning my options in case I have to tell them to take a hike if they try to charge me. So far they have been good about fixing everything without question.

I had that clip break on my Toyota Corolla, and it still worked fine. The spring held the wiperblade in place, and it never slipped off when I was using it. I just recently sold the car, and forgot to tell the new owner about it, oh well...

Thanks, that alleviates my concern. I figured it would probably be okay.
