Looking into custom megnaflow exhaust for 2.8 12v
I seen people talk about custom megnaflow exhaust for there 12v being that its the "best bang for your buck"... obviously looking at the site they dont have a full exhaust or catback for a 12v.... i guess my question is, i dont understand how they do a custom setup? do they buy the catback exhaust for a different year car and modify it?? or do they jsut buy the megnaflow cats and slap on a regular muffler??
another question is i saw these cats on the site http://www.car-sound.com/02product/s...A4,+A4+Quattroare these basically like the stock units?? i dont see anything that talks bout horepower gains or even better flow??
thanks

do you want just cat back or with cats? because custom exhaust is usually just people going to a muffler shop and asking them to mandrel bend some piping and putting an aftermarket muffler on and putting it on the car... cat back doesnt include replacing the cat its just everything back from the cat...im thinking about doing the custom set up just with a borla muffler but i want to find a good shop with a decent price
for the V6 the best setup sound and performance wise is a custom. Usually the cats are left as is, the mid resonators are removed and an aftermarket muffler replaces the crappy stock one. You can go further ahead and remove the cats if you live in a state with no cat emissions testing or get highflow cats.
Or you could check with Random Technology for high-flow cats as well -that way you get the power gains very close to those of a test pipe, but you don't have to worry about failing smog.
Yeah custom is leaving the cats getting mandrel bent tubing and using a borla, magnaflow etc universal muffler. I would say if you are gonna go custom replace the cats with high flow cats. Why spend the money on nice free flowing exhaust to have your cats restrict it. HFC will still pass emissions and will you give you a little better hp and better sound. My .02 Here is a good place for a high flow cat that is not "universal". For exhaust universal is fine but I have been told for your cat you want something specifically for your car. http://www.labreemotorsports.com/products_vw.html
removing the resonators on a 2.8 makes the car sound horrible. it gives it a ricey sound, at about 3-4k RPM's you get a HUGE RASPY noise, it fades away when you reach about 5.5k rpms but it makes sound horrible until than
i did a custom exhaust on my old 12v and immediately took it offbecause it sounded terrible and i could not have my audi sounding that way.
