Lost 1gear - 1.8t mt transmission
I started out by doing reverse doughnuts in the snow, maybe 5. Transmission locked up in reverse, car stalled. Managed to get it out of reverse, by shifting into 2nd, took off tranny seemed fine with 1st gear being notchy now(like bent shift forks). Foward about 100 miles, I go to downshift from speed and transmission is stuck in gear, managed to get it out by stopping, puttin in reverse. No more first gear after that point. It will engauge slighty, but then just make a weak contact noise and stop.
Took a look under it, seems fine nothing loose.
Thoughts? Best case scenario it's a clutch. Worse case Transmission.

so in the middle of winter you decided to take the tranny off in the middle of a parking lot...am i missing something?
what a magician....as far as 1st gear, if it was a clutch, all your gears would suck getting into......

No I managed to get it outta the stuck gear by putting it in reverse. The tranmission is still in the car, i'm driving it without 1st for now.. we'll see how long that'll last.
I find it hard to belive 4-5 simple spins in snow did this transmission.

Not tknowing anything about transmissions, I would that that it couldnt be the donuts you were doing, buecause you dont shift during donuts. At least, I dont. Just drive in first gear whip the wheel, floor it, and enjoy.
It was reverse doughnuts with the wheel cranked to the extreme right. Totally my fault, but the transmission shoulda held since it was low speed.. I ordered a new Sachs clutch for it. Got an appt for it in the shop once I get the clutch. Guy told me most likly shift fork with some more internal damage.
While the trans is dropped might as well put in a new clutch and see about droppin the oil pan and replacing the oil pump since I believe my car has a sludge problem.
I'll keep this updated with progress for future searches.

Hmmm...that kinda sucks. I've never heard of this happening, and everyone does donuts in their Quattro A4.
I'm sorry for you if it actually is your tranny. Now might be the time to get a 2.8 trans if you plan on eventually getting a bigger turbo setup.

Nah i'm gonna keep the thing stock. Gonna see if the guy can rebuilt my original transmission cause I like how the car drives and want it reliable. As it's my winter beater.... I got a 475hp Ls1 camaro to beat in the summer.
Again I think it woulda been fine if I was doing it foward.. Doing reverse doughnuts is what fugged the car up.. I doubt they planned on people doing that.
