Maintance on an A4 2.8
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum. I just had a quick question. I've got a 98 A4 2.8. I've had it for 3 years now, when I bought it it had about 75k on it and since I've put on another 30k. I've always taken great care of it, maintance wise and interior/exterior care. It seems like every year I pay about $1000 on just transmission flushes, oil changes, brake, power steering, and coolent flushes. Does this sound right to you guys?
How much are you guys paying for that type of stuff if its not too personal a question
. I'm thinking about selling this car because its just costing too much to maintain, but the mechanic I go to keeps telling me what a wonderful car this is. And I want to know if I'm getting hosed by this guy. 1000 a year for just flushes and oil changes.

How many miles are you going before changes? How much does he charge each change?
Transmission and power steering fluids really don't need changed but every 50k miles or so.
Brake and coolant usually go every 2 years or so.

I don't think you need a new car, I think you need a new mechanic.
When I bought the car used at 75K miles, I changed all the fluids. Had to do the timing belt, so changed the coolant. I'm good for another 50 -75K miles. All the fluids on the audi are "lifetime", and other than the oil (5K miles) and the brakes (every 2 years), audi has no suggested change interval.

Hey sorry about that. I meant I put in another 3k.
The car has 104k miles on it. I change my oil every 4-5k miles with synthetic. Everytime I go for a minor issue like 200-300 worth he always comes back with a diagnostic for 1500-3000.
One year it was the CV Boots, timing belt and fluid flush. And than the year after that was another fluid flush. And than the audi dealership charged 150 for a new battery that was only worth 50.
At this point I'm probably going to sell it for a WRX, I will miss the A4.

i had to have all my cv joints replaced. so far just the inners were done...still have to do the outers. (possibly the other way around?). each one (4 total) is about 150 for parts and labor. timing belt is about a 500-900 dollar job depending on where you go and what you have replaced (hopefully it was done thoroughly), it should be done about every 60k miles. and why would you buy a battery from a dealership in the first place?
