Hi, I have a 2001 A4 2.8 and about five days ago it had a missfire which seems to be a common problem. (Malfuntioning Ignition Coil) I'm getting a new Ignition Coil, wires, and plugs I was wondering if there was any other maintance things I should do while I fix this.

Was thinking about doing the fuel filter, maybe.

 

Call Audi first they might have a recall for your coils and could replace it for free. Check air filter to start off with. How much miles?

 

There is no recall for the 2.8 coil, and it very rarely if ever goes bad (ditto the wires). Change your plugs, gap them to .032", clean the MAF, and run a can of seafoam through the gas. See what happens after that. Don't just throw a bunch of (usually unnecessary) parts at the car.

 

The car has 103,000 miles. The air filter looks in decent but i will probably get a new one but my air box had some dirt in it. I figured it was the coil because cylinders 2/4 run of the same pack. When I pulled the codes on it one of the codes where PO352 Ignition Coil B Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction. Do you think it still could have been caused by bad spark plugs or should I go ahead and order the ingition coil. Thanks for the advice. Probably going to clean my MAF and get the Seafoam as well.

 

It could be. The point to my suggestion is that if there are multiple possibilities, try the inexpensive ones first. I'd rather spend $20 on parts that don't fix it before dropping a couple hundred on one that does, instead of the other way around, buying a $200 part, getting nowhere, and finding a couple $3 spark plugs were to blame. It may be the coil, don't get me wrong, but for the 6 years I've been dealing with these cars, I might've seen 1-2 V6 cars with coil problems.

What are the rest of the codes? Do you have them? They could help narrow it down.

PO300 Multiple random misfires
PO302 Cylinder 2 misfire
PO304 Cylinder 4 misfire
PO352 Ignition Coil B Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction

 

No kidding - it does look like the coil is responsible. That's a rare occurrence.

 

Op, check out this link before you buy a new coilpack.

The harness is 195 + $20 a coil. This seems like a better option for the future in case a coil goes stops functioning properly like the problem you're having now, then you won't have to buy a new coilpack for $200+.

i thought about doing this actually. i think for a lot less also, just be able to read some wiring diagram should be a able to pull it off. has 034 released it yet?
