Default maintenance costs

I'm in the market for a new car and I'm definitly considering the 2006 A4 2.0T quattro. After the first 4 year free scheduled maintenance, what should I expect for scheduled maintence costs (oil changes, tune ups, etc)? As in how much would a typical oil change cost, and how much would tune ups and other scheduled maintenance cost?

Thanks!

I guess that depends on where you go. I'm in Los Angeles and one dealer quoted me 80$ for just an oil change and nothing else. That's four times what a non-luxery car costs for just an oil change. So you can guess how much a tune-up would cost.

Oil change 32 dollars with Mobil 1 and my filter.

Tune up ( 10 dollars to change the spark plugs myself, takes 30 minutes max.

Cabin filter 15 dollars (5 minute job)

Air filter ( 15 dollars, 30 minutes on my car to get the GD heat shield off)

Timing belt, water pump, engine seals, accessory belt (parts and labor, 600)

By the way, do we need a special tool to change the oil and filter?

I certainly don't on my 2001 VW Passat 1.8T, which should be very similar. I do my own oil changes, and once you get the hang of dropping and reinstalling the belly pan, an oil change is not much more difficult than average, and much easier than on some cars I have seen. Get a good set of low-rise ramps (I have black plastic Rhinos, which work great), a band wrench, and set of metric box end wrenches (I forget whether the drain plug is 17 or 19mm).

Maintainence on these cars is ridiculous. Why do you think there are so many DIYers on this forum. Most of us are young and broke. $60 for synthetic oil change at the independent Audi mechanic I go to. Yep...it sucks even worse when big things go wrong. $500 to change an oil pump a couple of months ago....$500 for a broken cat weld and some basic other things a few months before that...and the list goes on and on.

Someone on this forum said it's a good idea to have $500 saved at all times when you own an Audi and I whole heartedly 2nd that opinion. Although on new cars it won't be so bad...
