Default MIL light (malfunction indicator light)

hey everybody, new to the forum.

i did search this, and i think i know what's wrong, but i'd like some feedback.

i own a '02 A4 1.8T, with 40,500 miles that just had its major 40K check up. it's in beautiful condition. like an idiot i put regular gas in the car, full tank.

a day later the MIL light came on (upper left on the dash, yellow light looks like an engine with a lightening bolt through it and says CHECK). in the manual it gives a few reasons the light would illuminate and says to ease off of the quick accelerations and hard driving, get it checked out. also says it could be a loose gas cap (it's not).

i'm thinking it's the low-octane gas. however, my doubt lies in that i'm not sure THIS PARTICULAR light would go on in response to the wrong gas?

anyone heard of this, or went through this? thanks.

Nah low octane gas doesn't cause CEL. Our engines adjust to lower octanes. Go to autozone and get it scanned for fault codes for free.

it won't be the gas and isn't your car still under factory warranty, but check the gas cap.
