My audi wont start??? I just bought it!
Hey guys im in a situation, my 01 a4 i bought 3 months ago suddenly doesnt want to start. It has had no problems and runs perfect until this morning when I go in to start it, nothing happens. It doesn't crank the engine or turn over, only the HID lights up. It makes a sound coming from the engine when you try to start the engine but nothing else.
Turns out the warranty I signed over expired 10 days ago and Im very nervous as i don't have a lot of xtra cash for repairs on a car I just bought.
Anyone have ideas? I have a towing company coming over now to check it out.
Sigh

Tow truck guy came by, not looking good. Initially said it could be the starter, but checked that and the battery and they both seem to be functioning. Then he said the timing belt, which was changed by the previous owner at 80k miles (currently 86k). He tried to jump start but nothing happened.
Is there a warranty on these timing belts? Im sure as hell not paying the 1000+ or whatever for a new one if it was just replaced. God i hate car problems!!!

if timing belt broke and its before the sevice interval or oyu have the record audi shoudl take care of it for you, although be ready to do alot of bi!ching.
Kind of stupid question, but do you have gas in the car? Maybe you ran out and didn't notice when you pulled in. Happend to me awhile ago with one of my cars. I went back outside my house hopped in my car and UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH time to go to a gas station.
Okay, everybody go back to school. If the car doens't crank then you've eliminated lots of stuff like timing belts, oil, water, even fuel. Okay, if all the stars alinged properly, and it was a full moon, then maybe a timing belt could cause it to not turn over because a piston is wedged against a valve- but that seem unlikly in this case.
So I'd be a bit confused though if someone told me both my battery and starter motor and the engine still wont turn over. How did he check the starter? Did he make the car crank (without using the key)? If that were the case then it's possible the you have either blown a fuse (ignition maybe) or you have something messed up with the immobilizer system.
When you turn the key to the "on" position do you get all your idiot lights (i.e. batter, cel, brake, etc)? Does your dome light dim when you try to crank? Do you get any "clicking" sounds from under the hood when you try to crank? If so then it's a voltage problem- possiby a bad ground even.
Aside from that I'm leaning towards an immobilizer circuit failure. Have you tried your other keys?
