Default Need some help deciding

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and new to Audi's in general.

I have to make a decision on a car to buy within the next month and have test drove 2 different A4's. I'm interested in the 02+ body style. I tried a 1.8t and really enjoyed the car, except the stock engine with the auto tranny felt pretty sluggish. Today i finally got to try a 3.0 with auto and was much more satisfied with the performance. My question is, Can a 1.8T with simple mods (chip etc.) compare to the performance of a stock 3.0? I'm trying to make the most cost effective choice.

Thanks to any who reply!

Oh ya, forgot to mention that I'm not set on auto, that's just what I test drove, but back to my first question. Will a lightly modded 1.8t compare to the performance of a stock 3.0?

Lightly? No. A lightly modded 1.8 will get you about 200hp, stock 3.0 is stock 220 hp/torque. If you get serious, though, a 1.8 will kill those numbers.
