Default New A4 owner questions.

Hello to all... I'm a new owner of a '99 A4 Avant with 146k miles with a manual 5spd I inherited from my father when he passed away. I believe the oil has been changed regularly, full 90k service completed at 94k and a new clutch (10/05). What are the typical wear and tear items I should be aware of? It seems to have a slight body roll when cornering, is this normal and with this many miles would it be worth replacing body bushings and struts? Also, I've seen the drop in K&N air intake systems on Ebay for ~$50, are these worth installing, or would I need a performance chip to utilize the extra air flow? What chips out there are recommended?

Thanks in advance... I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about this car from this forum.

welcome to the forums, 99a4! the main items to watch out for would be the timing belt (which you've already done), the control arms (probably the biggest issue with B5 A4s), and little things like failing O2 sensors, temp sensors, etc...drop in K&N filters are good, you won't get much power from a CAI (cold air intake) like the ones on ebay, but it will give you a little more growl out of the engine...chips don't provide much gains either, although a few people lately have been praising the 2.8 chip...the body roll is normal (our cars weigh in at over 3k lbs), but it can definitely be remedied with some suspension mods...a rear sway bar will get rid of the understeer and a lot of the body roll...and aftermarket springs/struts will pretty much get rid of the body roll completely...don't replace the springs without doing the shocks at the same time, because you'll end up replacing them anyway within a few months...as far as chips go, search the forum from the last couple days and you'll find a few 2.8ers who have recently gotten chipped...some 2.8 chips claim 8HP, others claim 20HP

as for the K&N filter. straight out of the box there good but when you "recharge" it make sure you dont use too much oil because it has been known to gunk up the MAF sensor.
