new audi owner with a question
i'm from canada now working out of namibia and bought a 1997 audi a4 1.8 in excellent condition
on the outside.
the language barrier is a problem and getting answers to my questions is very difficult.
i get the car in a week or less ..bought it offa local diplomat with too many cars.
--i looked at the very clean engine but not knowing there is a turbo option i am wondering if mine indeed has a turbo .. how can i tell?? it has a strange inake but honestly i wasn't lookingto see if it had turbo.
it's a sport package audi with sunroof and nice rims etc
--did all 1997 audi a4 1.8's from germany come with turbo ..as i understand it they all did?
the test drive was great but i didn't really get the revs up to get impressed .. i must say it was love at first sight.
beautiful cars the audi's are and i may spend the money to make it really vrooom
beats my old POS Dodge Neon that i modded slightly

Yes all Audi A4 1.8's do have a turbo on them, did you check if the car is Quattro or not? I'm assuming it is since you mentioned sport package... AWD is a must when buying an Audi... Is it 5speed or automatic?
Grats on the car btw, glad you found a 97 in good condition

Yes, you have a turbo.
If you really want to have fun, put a BIGGER turbo on it, and the supporting mods, and you'll wonder why you ever owned a dodge anything. (I guess a viper would be cool though)

RE: new audi owner with a question
well i guess i have to be honest ..i fell in love with the car the first second i saw it.
with money burning a hole in my pocket i bought it knowing full well there was
230,000 Km on the car.
there's a performance custom shop right accross the street and whenever i go to work in the desert
i will leave the car for him to add things little by little.
it's a 5 speed ,no idea if it's a quattro but the car looks freaking awesome .. well taken care of on the inside and out, also it has had regular maintenance.
this has me thinking that 200,000 plus km is still okay for now.
i have never seen a car like this in canadabut i said that about Dodge Neons till i bought one then saw that they were everywhere
cheers

damn .. it is not a turbo and it's not a quattro.
it's a 1.8 5 valve .. i think it looks awesome
the baby should be mine in a few short hours provided they get the new windsheild i wanted put in.
drooling to get in a just drive.
my bosses VW Polo 1.4 just fat plain sucks

RE: new Audi owner with a question
not a quattro ..not a turbo ..these things i have confirmed.
nothing on the trunk lid or anywhere does it say a4 .. i guess i will investigate the VIN and see for sure.
as for power .. it's not hella powerful but better then most i would say.
handles like crap in the city but it really shines on the highway.. i got her up to 190 ..didn't want to push it till i knew for sure the wheels won't fall off.
i really love the car .. it is showing it's age though with broken gas pedal and some interior stuff that shows it's a 10 year old car but overall i got one hell of a bargain.
time will tell ... i definetly will look into a turbo option but with an engine with 230,000 k on it i think i'd be pushing my luck.
car purrrsss .. idle great and rev's freely.
took awhile to figure out the radio, turn lights on,adjust steering collumn.
i can't open the trunk .. i will figure out the trick to that one.
i strongly believe that if this car is trouble free for a year or more then i walk away happy till i get
a new car.
it may very well be an audi again.
cheers .. great forum with tons of information and great contributors.
pics in a few days..too busy driving my Audi.
