Default new clutch?

I am trying to figure out when to get a new clutch. if it were up ot me, i would have allready driven down to 2bennet racing and goten the 9lb flywheel with a clutch, but unfortunatly its not, my dad wont let me buy a new clutch until mine is toast.

here it is. I have been noticing that it is progressivley easier, expecially within the last 2 or 3 weeks, to make my clutch stink like the heavens. all i have to do is slip the clutch a little form a higher RPM at a start, of shift with the rpm's too high. it still seams ot grab fine (although i dont know what a new clutch feels like concidering the only clutches i have driven are anywhere from 5 to 45 years old). It also seams to have a very short grap point compared to other stock clutches. the enguage/disenguage point is very soon, and then the other like 90% of the clutch travel does nothing.

any advice?

and also, is 9lbs too light on a 01 a4 1.8tq with apr chip adn borla? awe-tuning suggests a 12lb.....

the lighter the clutch the less rotating mass = less torque but more HP.

well, iknow the lighter means less rotating mass, but for torque, it doesnt take it away. it actually allows more to get to the wheels. the the loss is from shifting. your engine wont have as much momentum when you drop the clutch at a higher RPM than your drivetrain. and for HP, it just means more gets to the ground.

but i just want to know if these are signs that my clutch is about to go, if anyone has had any real problems with really light clutches (9 lbs) and now, if its a job i can go without a lift, and just with 4 jack stands in a few days
