WOW... by the way Marty, never had the problem so why would I "look it up"? I haven't experienced or even heard of it. Didn't realise it was this common, I did check with the dealer mechanic here and he said he has had about 3 out of all the Audi's he has serviced. Think I may just get Marty to service my car from now on.

we are talking about the screen that is between the RPM and MPH gauges...in the 2001. it shows when the doors are ajar, driver information, introduction message that says to apply brake before shifting out of park, etc. this isnt the navigation screen. well, i appreciate all of the help but i decided to just buy a certified pre owned 2.8L from a dealer...gives me the 2 yr/100,000 mile warranty. im 19 - my parents dont help me one bit - so i would rather cut a deal with a dealer rather than buy the cheaper 1.8T yet have more problems in the long run. the cars timing belt hasnt even been changed. so once again, i appreciate all the help. =)

Your talking about the LED display. I had mine replaced at the fault of a mechanic and the new one does the same thing... its a pain in the ****, sometimes.

It is definatly important to get that timing belt replaced... that should be a top priority as it could seriously damage your engine.

Aside from that... welcome to the AF family!

if you are still under warranty or purchased the extended warranty it will cover it

i had mine replaced for just the $50 dollar deductible when it started being weird

well, I didnt buy the 1.8T with the messed up screen. I read on audiusa.com that they dont offer extended warranties. the car only had a 1,000 mile warranty...but only for oil and power train - and this is only by law for the dealer to do this so its actually not really a warranty. ive called a few audi dealers and they said it would cost from 500 - 800 bucks to get that screen fixed. i think im better off just getting the 2.8L which is about 4K more but has a 100,000 mile factory warranty and is certified pre owned. the 2.8L is also about 10K lower in mileage.

I have this problem and it bugs me. I found that teh hotter it egts the less u can see it. So when i actaully care what teh temp is outside it doesnt work at all. MIned u i live in so cal so it gets hott. ITs aroudn 600 to get it fixed and i may be doing this very soon right after i get sway bars and new wheels. But u can get them in salvage yards for around 250. Which is very easy to do. I would say dont let this be a factor in saying if u are going to buy it. BUT u have the same car w/oi teh problem i would get that. BUt just cause u dont notice it doesnt mean it always works i have days that mien is perfect. So beware and if u park in a garage everytime u shouldnt have a problem i have to park outside.

Default Center display

Yep, mine died before the warranty was up but Audi wouldn't replace. Problem is, this display will work when it's very cold ~40F and below. Once car warms up, display goes away. I haven't come up with a fix but I KNOW it's heat related. Really sucks...
