Do not go to dealers, take it to car specialists, the parts will cost 1/4th what they would at a dealer, and the labor will cost 1/6th at least. Dealer bullsh*t with you and mess with your mind, they will lie to you just for more profit. Mechanics are much more reliable and get your sh*t fixed for a decent price, stop with the dealers.

And all these stories are scaring me, my car has a perfect history and is at 45k miles...... I fear the next 10k miles![&:]

Well, CEL came on againthreeweeks ago (65K now). I told her to go get the codes pulled but the CEL turned off andshe figured she wait until she took it in for her ridiculous oil change cost.

Supposidly theproblem was a breather hose, which I told her not to get done, she did it anyway and they went ahead and did the 75K maintence w/o her saying to.

They're getting a call tomorrow.

Well, I'm going pull all the receipts for everything ever done and have a sit down.

They charged$107(1 hourlabor) for a 2 minutechargetoput on a 6 inch piece of plastic and two metal clips on top of the damn engine. the parts were $22. I told her not to let them touch it, just find out what's wrong.

Anyway, last note, these engines seem to run way too hot. I know it has the turbo, but 3 hourse aftter sitting in the garage, the whole damn engine seemed way too hot. I know they're high rev' and the turbo uses the exhaust but damn, my v8 is room temp after 3 hours. This was still hot to the touch.

Alright, I don't own an 2003 A4 1.8 turbo, my fiance does. I own an 06 Mustang GT modded heavily. I'm somewhat familiar with the A4 and the A6 4.2.

We're having some serious issues with her car, it has 63K, bought new from dealer, Jim Ellis in Atlanta. Luckily she got an extended warranty. Car ran pretty much perfect until about 50K miles, now, every 6 months she takes it in, there's a new problem. And every 6 months, if she didn't have the warranty it would be $1200-$2000 to fix. Here's what's happened:

1. speaker volume goes in/out, dealer replaces, problem still there
2. radiatorproblems -the resevoir doesn't have any fluid, supposidly a leakbut we never saw any fluid on the ground, car runs fine but needs to be fixed anyway, ~$1700
3. intake leak - computer actually reported this one, so knew something was wrong, she takes it in. Bill somewhere around $1000 for a damn intake hose.
4. paddle/stick shift not working - dealer claims can't reproduce, 95% of the time you put it over to manual shift, it won't shift up. This can be resolved by slamming the Hell out of it forward and then it starts working.
-- I'm sure this one will be big money when the decide to change it.
5.latest problem, something to do with power steering leak, extended warranty people tired of paying out so they sent an auditor to inspect, $1800 by insurance but we have to pay the $190 alignment which I'm pretty pissed about.
A) we have to pay for the alignment even though its warranty work
B) why the Hell is an alignmnet so expensive on these cars?

I'm just curious how other A4 owners experiences 50K+ are with their car?

We're getting rid of the car before the warranty is up at 75K and she was thinking of the new A4 butnot sureafter this experience.

My experience has been that Audi makes a great car. We've had all thework done by the dealer.

My Mustang's warranty was voided in 500 miles for most parts in/around the engine but I knew that, I also knew that if it broke, I can do most of the work or have it done pretty cheaply. With the Audi, it's just so expensive.

Curious about people who bought a used A4 and then what problems sprung up on them as well.

ladies and gents, this whole topic and all of its replies prooves why you should buy a b5 a4 over a b6 a4!
163K miles on my b5 a4, only problems have been the control arms, tie-rod ends and a drive shaft.
lmfao, $190 for an alignment, that'll be the day. i pay $70 for a full, 4-wheel, alignment which takes no longer then 30 minutes. i get mine done from sears.
for the intake leak, all you needed to do was let the engine run and, listen and feel for air leaks between the maf and the intake manifold. the main culprit is the vacume hoses. they cost $1.00 a foot and only take second to change.
a little advice....
BUY A SERVICE MANUAL and DO NOT go to the audi dealerships, they will con you any way they can and that goes for the majority of local machanics aswell.

and by the way, how can you even compare ford to audi, ford is a peice of sh*t. their dealerships are one of the worse, customer service is just plane 'ol bollocks and all their new cars and trucks are just terrible for service's. i own a 03ford f150 king ranch with not alot of miles, my front wheel bearings were bone dry so i pack them. the truck went in fora driveshaftseal leak and a vibration from the warped, cheapand crap oem, brake discsabout 2 weeks later and they came back to me and said that the front wheel bearings need packing, i do not know why they waisted time even looking atthem, but i know they dont need packing since i only packed them 2 weeks before so that was their first lie.
they also said that my tie-rods are bad, yet the alignment is just fine, no pulling and no odd tire wear, second lie.
they didnt even test drive the truck before or after service.
pathetic.
i could go on but i wont.

this is why i do all the work on my cars myself, mojority of machanics cannot be trusted.
