non working heater solution
One and All,
I was recently advised to do various things with my car because the heater wasn't working, from changing a thermostat to scrapping the car(!).
I took apart the dashboard (how many bolts do audi actually need to use!) to get to the heater matrix (whats with the radio removal tool? aarrrgghhh)
I sprayed the heater mixer flap with liberal amounts of WD40 (thin sprayed oil/water displacement fluid for the american cousins)
I put the whole lot back together and I only had two bolts left over (!)
I had hot water going to and fro from the heater grid thing
I went through all the error codes on the air-con system
What happened? four fifths of f*** all!
I was resigned to have a freezing car.
however, it fixed itself!!! I never use the compressor on the a/c, but on a whim I decided to leave it on for a whole tank of fuel. it used fifty miles more petrol than normal, but now I have hot air all the time.
I am guessing that the water in the a/c unit was stagnent/minging/rotten, and by using the pump pushed this water away, and got fresh stuff in. or something!
Anyway, hope this helps people who have frostbite
Cheers
Mike
