oil change?
audiboy1618 , I have no Mods. Road & Track has a column in the Technical Correspondence of the Feb. 2005 issue. Someone with a BMW who uses Mobil 1 , as recommended , wanted to know if the oil shoud be changed more often than the 15K requirement by BMW. They commented , the engine will only outlast the rest of the car by doing this. However , there are many variables: short trips in cold weather , dusty conditions , and Mods the increase the oil temperature. You can check your oil every 1000 miles. Pull the dipstick and rub some oil between your fingers. If it's smooth good.
10k!? Are you NUTS!? Oil change every 3500-4k...no questions...just do it! If you want your baby to last you gotta treat her right! I usually change my oil every 4months even if I haven't drivin a lot on it. 10k is almost a year of driving for an average driver. An oil change is possibly the best thing you can do to insure the life of your engine...

Incidentally, "every 4 months" is what the original owner's manual says for my son's 1969 Camaro. Oils have improved, but engines, particularly the turbos, have gotten much hotter and harder on oils.
