Yes, I use synthetic. 3500-4000 miles between changes. New filter and oil everytime

I changed mine every 5K-8K km using Bardahl 5W40 XTC. Excellent oil for your money.
$8CDN per litre.

changing your oil every 3k miles is over rated.

Especially if you run synth. However, if it makes anyone feel better, then why not do it? Can't hurt.

LOL Well... that is true. Although Audi changes mine for free every 10K miles, I still change oil at least once in between. That means 10K miles mark on Audi, 5K miles mark on me and still hurts my wallet. Especially my 3.0 engine takes 6.8 quarts of oil. That's a whole case + additional quart.

Default synthetic oil change & viscosity question

Think of it this way. Motor oil in car = blood in animals...
To my knowledge, an avg OEM oil filter fills up after around 2k miles...(running on normal oil)
meaning after that, it's unable to filter, poisoning your car's blood there-on...

First owner of my 96A4 has been using regular oil, changing every 2k - 2500 miles religiously.
I've decided to start using synthetic (royal purple)...
I had to pay around $35 for 6 bottles at pep boys, but it is cheaper online right?
My mechanic highly recommends oil change at 3k-4k even with synthetic...

QUESTION:
What viscosity should I use? (i saw 5w30 and 10w30..)
used 10w30 for now... I figured since my car has high milage, thicker oil would be better....

Well for winter i've been using 0W-40 (only M1 approved oil).
