I did a search and couldn't find anything on this. I have an '01 A4 2.8 and it tends to burn through oil - about a qt every 2k. It's been doing that since I got it. The dealer service people say its common for that motor and not to worry. I just want to make sure. I know 5w-30 is a pretty light oil and that helps explain the issue. The same thing happens with 5w-30 in my motorcycle - heavier oil there does slow the burn.

But I defer to the Forum to get your advise, opinions and expert testimonials.

That's not a whole lot of oil for 2k miles. The 2.8's in general tend to be oil hogs.

 

I loose about half a quart every 2K in my 2.8. Sounds pretty normal, unless your seeing smoke or pudels

 

I found out from audi this morning that they allow 750ml of oil per 1000 miles within their normal limits. Which i think is way to much!!

 

That's 1 quart in 1,260 mi.

Now with that out of the way. I'm hijacking my own thread. I'm going to piece together my hop-up wish list. I think I'm done with the motorcycle on the track, so how 'bout an Avante. I'm hooked on closed course riding(soon to be driving). Anyone know of decent clubs in the NY Metro area?
