What it your reasoning for not switching to synthetic? Tests and analysis's have been done that show it doesnt hurt, and only helps to make the switch!!! The synthetic is going to clean your nasty carbon mineral deposits and provide better lubrication/longer engine life.

Word, I've used Mobil 1 5W-30 in several cars with no problems, including a trip to quebec where my in-car temp was at something like 10 below (my car started fine, my buddy's suburban had to be towed to a garage), then later that month, moving to south florida!

Love the Mobil 1!

Maybe it will clean out the sludge buildup in there and cause it to clog other stuff up? Like the oil pickup. Thats what I'm a little worried about.

Well if you make the switch, you should change the oil every couple thousand miles for the first 5 or 6k miles.

So you think I should change it every 2K for the first 6K miles on synthetic? I was just going to use M1 0w 40 and change it at 3k. The car has 59,000 miles on it now.

I just changed mine and used Mobil 1 0w-40. I think the choice of oil is an open ended thing. There are several adequate viscosities and there seems to be no agreement on what's better.

An important point is that the 2.8L doesnt need frequent oil changes like the 1.8T.
I'm fuzzy on this point, but most people that complain about sludges and changes at 3500 miles, own a 1.8T
I guess the 2.8 holds for a little more mileage, also because it has a larger oil capacity (almost 5.8 liters against 3.5 of the 1.8T), but I'm not sure if this information is reliable.

Yeah its deffiantely open ended.. The oil in the 1.8t takes a lot more abuse than the 2.8 for sure.. Id change it every 3k miles in either one though to be safe... I hear that you can go 10k miles on synthetic with a NA engine before it starts to break down. Im going on 8k miles with my maxima thats running synthetic.
