Oil Sludge and What Year?
just to start off i want to say i searched both topics and didnt find much. I would like to know how i can tell if there is an oil Sludge problem with a car. I recently sold my car and am in the market for a new one. I test drove a 2000 1.8T today is there a certain year that i should look for over another say pre 99.5 or is a 2000 just as good. thanks for the help

If you want to mod, get a 99.5 or earlier. The whole DBW thing, you know.
Search AW for "oil sludge" or "oil sludge recall" or something and you should get some details. AW was around in its current form when that whole thing went down.

If the engine goes "clikity clack lack mucha shaka lack nack".. There may be some sludge.... Seriously, best way to tell is if the previous owner has records of timely oil changes with the correct oil/filter..
