Default Oil Sludge and What Year?

just to start off i want to say i searched both topics and didnt find much. I would like to know how i can tell if there is an oil Sludge problem with a car. I recently sold my car and am in the market for a new one. I test drove a 2000 1.8T today is there a certain year that i should look for over another say pre 99.5 or is a 2000 just as good. thanks for the help

If you want to mod, get a 99.5 or earlier. The whole DBW thing, you know.

Search AW for "oil sludge" or "oil sludge recall" or something and you should get some details. AW was around in its current form when that whole thing went down.

If the engine goes "clikity clack lack mucha shaka lack nack".. There may be some sludge.... Seriously, best way to tell is if the previous owner has records of timely oil changes with the correct oil/filter...

just run synthetic.. youll be fine. if your really worried. I have an extra clean oil line for a good price.. Buy mine and never run mineral based oil.

Remove the oil refill cover. Stick a finger in and feel the inside of the valve cover.

Clickity clack shaka lacka macka shlamalama ding dong... That is sludge... When I bought my Audi I knew it was dealer serviced up to about 50k miles.. There were 72k on it when i got it so that leaves about 20k miles that i dunno what what done for sure. It did have the bigger filter on it when I got it so that was reassuring. Look out for that kind of stufff.

Drive by wire.. Meaning not a cable, but an electrical wire.. There is a sensor on the gas pedal that guages how much you are giving it and it tells the engine what to do... I have DBW and cant tell a difference... Sometimes i think that its a little slower to respond to your foot but I hardly ever experience that.
