oil filter: 1 valve vs 2 valve in an 1.8t (stock is 1 valve), can this damage the engine?

I don't see why it should cause a problem, the bypass valve is only there in the event of the filter medium becoming blocked or collapsing, aslong as it's designed for the thread on the 1.8t engine it should be ok.

One thing i'd check though is the psi it opens at as the audi oil system might run above this and result in unfiltered oil at all times. Why exactly do you want to run one?

Are you contemplating using a different filter than oem? If so which ones?

first sorry about my english (no my native language)... ok, i took my car to the audi dealer to change the oil, then i saw the original oil filter for the 1.8t (smaller with a price of us$3 ) and the s4 oil filter (bigger size with price: us$45 ), then i ask for the dealer to put in may car the s4 oil filter, then the dealer ask me: why you wan´t this ?, and i say just put it, the the man says okok just remember that hte original has one bypass valve and the s4 has two. and my question is if this change can damage my car ?

I think Audi just came out with a new larger oil filter for the 1.8t due to the oil sludge problem.
