Default Who are the experts here?

Hello All,

My brother had to leave town for work and left me his Audi. I wanted to fix a couple of things, wondering if maybe someone here has fixed them before. I searched through the FAQ's, but didn't see anything specifically to what I see wrong with his. It is a 99 A4 Avante Quattro. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

1. His ABS light stays on, and his BRAKE light flashes. The dealer said it would be 500+ to fix it, so he is living with it. Any way to override this?

2. His OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE is dead. It sits idle (I think 150degrees) all the time.

3. When we start the car, the cluster computer flashes SERVICE OIL for about 30 seconds. Every time, warm or cold. The oil was just changed though. (any relation to #2?)

Are these common problems? Obviously I'm not going to spend TONS of money fixing his car, but if there were a couple of smaller items I thought I could take care of them.

Thanks a ton!

ok you've got a couple options. first bring it to Autozone and get the codes scanned (free) and cleared. This should take care of the flashing lights on the dash and let you know whats going on. Write down the codes and bring them here and they VAG guys will tell you what is going on or look here, http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/index.php . or buy him a VAG com which will allow him to monitor his car via laptop.

ABS Control module is dead, the lights will keep coming back.... you can have it rebuilt, or buy a used one.. not to hard to remove/install...

Im guessing the sender on the oil pan is dead .. the one for oil temp ... buy a new one...

you can reset that light that says "service oil" its just a light that on an interval.. no matter what you do to the car

have fun

The oil temp sender is actually connected just above the oil cooler, right above the oil filter.
The sensor in the pan is the level sensor, not the temp.

The one of the filter is the oil pressure sensor. The one in the pan is multifunction. It is for level and temp. Except on the older cars that didnt have the level sensor. They have a seperat sensor on the block.
