Pedal alignment question

I am new here and would like to ask a different aspect of this subject. I just got an A 5 convertible and noticed in driving the little separation - side to side - distance between the right edge of the brake pedal and the left side of the gas pedal is so slight this causes, when pushing down on the brake, I also am depressing the gas pedal. I wonder if there is a "fix" or can my mechanic remove the brake pedal support arm - heat it and bend it a bit to the left - giving me more clearance between the 2 pedals. I have no clutch. We would be careful not too disturb the alignment where the support attaches above the dash.
