Hi there I recently got a 01 Avant 1.8T Quattro 5sp, always wanted a sporty wagon. For some reason the car never starts on the first try. The engine turns over, but it just doesn't start, it takes a few tries before it does. So I was looking around under the hood and notice that there is a plug with 2 wires to it on the side of the intake box that isn't plug to anything. I check and its a positive and negative. I notice I'm also missing the cover that covers the intake box.

Would some one tell me where that plug goes to. And does any one have any ideals why my engine takes a few tries before it starts?

To me that looks like it goes to the igniton igniter. You should have the ignition igniter where that oval piece is that is bare metal where your hand is near. I have an intake but this is pretty much what it should look like. It is the shinny metal piece in my picture that is covering the blue silicone. Hope this helps, and it should help cure your problem.

Its just the plastic part you need, on my intake i need the ignition igniter plate(the bare metal) to mount it to the intake.

 

im sure this is something youve already done, but feel around and search if that does connect to something it will be within reaching distance. if all else fails take it to the dealership they will know and thats something they shouldnt charge u for.

I look at the ignition control unit and it has 4 wires to it, the plug thats missing on my car only has 2 wires. And its just a positive and negative.

 

If it's on a longish wire at the end of that section of loom, it'll plug in infront of the turbo just above the DV valve.

 

No, its not that one. It looks to me it plugs in right on tip ur airbox, where u already off a piece where to white, thats the easist way i can say it.

After looking at all the A4 engine pictures that I can fine. I now know where that wire goes. I don't know what its call.
Trailboss, your right it is a ignition igniter but thats only on the 96-99 model. I have 01.
