Default Possible A4 owner, questions

Thinking about trading my STi in for a 2001 A4 1.8t 5-speed with the sport and premium packages. Has about 36k miles for $13,988 from a reputable high-end dealer.

Of course, I have a few questions. First, is that ^ a good deal? Car looks very clean -- haven't driven it yet.

Audi recommends 91 octane for best performance...I assume 93 octane is normally used where available? What kind of mileage is realized with the 5-speed 1.8t? Audi estimates 23/32...

Second, are there any special things to be on the lookout for with a used 1.8t A4? Timing belt service perhaps?

I'm looking for a daily driver while I attend school at Universal Technical Institute in Orlando, FL. Lower payments and better gas mileage are my main concerns.

Thanks!

I think its a good deal, identical to mine except for the 5sp. Audi will be more rewarding to drive even though its no race car (yet) Youll feel like a pimp... Trust me.

Make sure the timing belt gets done when you reach 60k miles.. make sure all its service records are in order.. and that only the proper oil was used.. and changed at the correct intervals.. otherwise this can lead to sludge build up and a blown engine.. 93 Octane will be just fine.. just dont use mid or low grade.. as this can cause pre-detonation.. Thats pretty low miles on that car.. seems like you are getting a really good deal.. but make sure you shop around just a little bit.. might be a better deal right around the corner. best of luck to you with whatever you end up doing

yes very true lol, i dont even have my liscense and i feel like a pimp [8D]

the deal to me seems good, better mileage than what i got my car for and its a 2001. i'd say test drive it and if its running smooth, go for it.

and thanks for the info bout gas redgoat, next time i full my tank im gonna get Premium, since gas prices are going down.

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting.
