does it rattle in any gear while in idle? like if you are at a stop, and put it in 5th gear say and hold down the clutch, does it still rattle the same? or is it just in first gear? or only in nutral?

the first audi that i fixed up had a similar problem, but it was deff the tranny... it would rattle all the way through first gear and then go awya the moment you shift to second... so if you are not getting any rattle while driving i'd say you are fine, i'd still try to get it on a lift and see if you can find anythign obvious... i know when when i worked at a mustang shop those things always came in with blown pilot bearings but i dont' know how audi set up their stuff, still kinda new to them
