Programming a spare key (immobilizer)
I've done some research and found a few options for "programming" the immobilizer for a "spare" key. When I bought my 2002 A4 1.8T, it came with one switchblade key. For my own comfort, I'd like to get a second key (without forking over a boat load of $ for it).
1. Buy key from 3rd party and use VAGCOM (need 7 digit SKC?)
2. Buy key at dealer and have them program it ($$$)
3. Buy key from 3rd party and have dealer program it ($$)
I understand there are alternatives to the dealer but haven't had much luck finding someone who can program the key to a car in the New Jersey/New York area.
If I were to go down the path of choice 1, I need some help finding my 7 digit SKC (Audi doesn't provide this anymore?) and someone with a VAGCOM who knows how to program a key. Without begging for help with this, has anyone gone down this path and have any experiences to share?
Otherwise, does anyone have any budget alternatives (under $100) that would get me a spare key (switchblade or not)?
Thanks
