first of all, get a real heatshield. i had mine ghetto rigged up like that for a bit, but then finally got this, http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89270, its literally a night/day difference. when the turbo is hot, the intake side isn't. def worth 90 bux. also to apr_a4the apr r1 is a diaphram dv, which gives it a different sound, that does sound great. i was gonna get one but i came up on a good deal for a 007 so i went with it. and finallyto answeryour question about sputtering. just let the car adapt to having a new intake on.did you look at the way thestock airbox is designed? there was a funnel type dealie, b4 the maf, now you eliminated it with just the cone filter. so it could because the maf is getting different readings than it did with the airbox on.one more thing, notice how other peoples intakes have that u-shaped tube between the filter and the maf? idealy you want6 inches between thefilter and themaf, could be another reason...just my .02
