Radio Codes/Safe on display--need help
Hello All,
I'm new to this site and welcome any input you may have for me.
My battery died last night. (I think the cop set the alarm off when he gave me parking ticket or something.) Now I can't use my stereo...it's in 'Safe' mode. This is my first Audi.
What is 'Safe' mode and how do I get rid of it?
I was given the radio code when I purchased it, but people from other sites are telling me to use the preset buttons....my code has two zeros in the front....how can I use the preset numbers?
Thank You,
Rena

my battery died on me and i switched it in about 5-10 minutes and my radio continued working fine, but if you have the owners manual and the whole book it should say it in there, and what year is your car???? because my came with little Radio booklet and code and all the instructions inside
It's not the newest model. It's a 97. It came with the owner's manual, but had NOTHING in it regarding radio codes. I have the code for my car. They guy found that for me online. I didn't get a radio guide, though. I guess that's something that came with the newer models?
I guess I'll just try what's on the other site or call Audi myself.
Thank you for your help!

if you have the code call the dealer they can tell you how to put it in...
look on the bright side you ave the code... other wise they'll charge you 1/2 hour worth of work to get the code...

Yes if you give your VIN to the dealership they can look it up for you. I have a 2001 and in it it a 4 digit code. Press the RBDS and P-scan button simultaneously for a few seconds until the word safe starts blinking . Then enter the 4 digit code using the track selection buttons 1-4. (button 1 for the first digit, button 2 for the second digit - so on and so forth). Then press those two buttons again until you see a frequency of a radio station. That means its unlocked. Wonder if yours would be any different from 2001.
Good luck,
Shreyas
