Default rear view mirror leakage

My rearview mirror has an internal leak that has turned the majority of the mirror a tinted brown. It"s a little annoying and now the auto dim does not work. I assume this is the auto dim material that has leaked? I also assume I have to get a new mirror...any idea on where to find a replacement?

"auto-dim material?"

not quite sure what you mean by that. also not quite sure of your problem.

could you explain a little bit more about what's actually going on?

the chemical or liquid inside the mirror that darkens th3e mirror
auto dimming mirrors are alrite but i dont think they really work
if u look at your rear view mirror you will see a lil hole in the centerish that has a light sensor
when theres is a lot of light you will notice the mirrors will actually dim
if someone hight beems you at night the mirrors will dim and it kinda prevents glar a lil

The mirror uses an lcd(liquid crystal display) to control light reflection in the mirror. Thats probably what you see leaking.

It's a fairly common problem. To remove the mirror, cut out two pieces of coat hanger approx 8" long. Bend the last 1/2" over 90 degrees to creat hooks. Insert one of the hooks on each side of the mirror. Now pull the mirror out of the ball socket. It may take a little force. Once the mirror comes out there should be a few wires to disconnect. ECS Tuning sells some autodim replacement mirrors too. Shouln't take more than 10 minutes to replace.
