Replace engine bearings need help
My b5 1.8t was knocking, so I removed the engine and took the oil pan off. #2 and #4 rod bearings are shot.I took them off and it looks like shaved metal and bubbled?. (I will post pics.) Now what I need to know is how to change them (and main bearings too, might as well) Do need to use a plastiguage(if thats the word?) or just put them on and torque them down. Could the crank be damaged from this?(It still looks smooth and shiny)
Have the crank measured for wear at a machine shop, they can grind it down if need be.
Don't use plastigauge, buy a Bentley manual to get all the correct specs for the job.

For the bently manual specs, is there anything special I need? Is the process simple or complicated (I don't have an extra $80 for a bentley)
also, I don't think there are anyshops around here that could check it, could it go bad again if I didn't have it checked?
