Default Revs to 2000rpm in Idle

I've recently noticed that my car revs up to 2000rpm when in idle. I can make this behavior go away by engaging the clutch, but when I'm in idle again the car will start revving again automatically. This happens regardless of whether the car is cold or warm.

I've got 75k miles and have a GIAC chip for the last 40k miles. I hadn't driven the car for 3 months and suddenly when I started driving again I noticed this odd behavior.

Any check engine lights or info in the display screen? By the way, an excellent year. I've got a 2000 A4 Avant QM

Figured it out - one of my hoses had a whole (I think it was the heating hose) and hence whenever the car would start to cool down (because the engine wasn't warm enough) it would have to rev the engine to keep it at a certain temp. This is a layman's explanation, but I think it somewhat represents the issue I had.
