Default A6 3.0 Quattro Revs in Idle

Hi,

I am having a weird problem maybe someone can help me figure out.

I have a 2002 A6 3.0 Quattro and when I am driving and stop, the car revs between 750 and 1000 RPM. A really bad smell comes out; almost like a burned oil smell.

When it does this, I quickly put it back in drive and then park and it stops revving. I got away from doing oil changes at my Audi service center because I refuse to pay their ridiculous prices (140 for oil change). I wonder if the filter the guys use where I take it now is somehow causing this.

Anyway, to see what happens, I purchased an Audi filter and will have the guys use that when they change the oil. Maybe that will clear it up.

By the way, I found a really good site that sells the same OEM parts Audi uses in our cars for less half the price (sometimes more). https://www.europaparts.com

Example: spark plugs for my A6: Audi parts 25.00, web site 12.00.

Thanks,
Danny

I don't think the oil filter is the problem. You might have a leak in your vacuum system or a problem with the emissions control system.

I don't know your level of experience with audis, but almost everything is expensive.

I would find a good independant and have them take a look. After all, a car is just a machine, and someone with any know how should be able to take a look for anything obviously out of place.

I've had the car for about 5 years now but have been lucky.

I'll definitely take the car to a mechanic, but I was wondering if anybody had any idea what that problem might be.

Thanks for the reply.

Danny
