Default roof rack question

Hello all,

I am looking to buy roof rack for my A4 but have a question. Is the roof rack (the base carrier bars) easy to install and remove? Because I don't want to leave it on all the time. I only want to have it on when I need it in the winter (for my skiboards).

Thanks.

Good question - I'm interested as well. I would someday like something to carry my mountain bike around (without having to throw it in back). I'm scared about a trunk mount because of scratches, so I'd like to get a roof-mounted rack. I'm interested in responses..

I bought a Thule roof rack for mine. Bought it through: http://www.rackattack.com/ , best prices i could find at the time, I would highly recommend them. I could take mine off or put it on within probably 5-10mins at most. Just line it up and tighten the bolts on it. The first time I put it on took a little longer to get things adjusted correctly, but now it is very easy.

Here's what I bought:
Item # Description

100400xt 400XT - Thule Aero Foot Pack
110050 LB50 - Thule 50 Inch Load Bars
100249 0249 - Thule Fit Kit 249
100871 0871 - Thule 38 inch Fairing
100544 0544 - Thule 4-pack Lock Cores

I would recommend at least buying the lock cores to go with it since if you do not someone can just unclamp your rack and take it. Also, I purchased the Fairing because I had read a lot that it improved mileage and made the rack much quieter. I have not tired it without the faring, but at least you should consider that option as well.

On the website just click "Fit Guide" at the bottom left and it will show you the options for your model.

P.S. rackattack also sent me a coupon after a couple months... I will be purchasing a snowboard rack from them as well for mine, then probably a bike rack at some point.

Thanks for the good info!
How much did you pay for it - all together?

Its not cheap thats for sure. I paid about $300 for that setup. The faring was about $55 and the locks $35, those are both optional.

Also, I would recommend checking their website and others for sales... you might find it a little less expensive that way.

I agree i have mine on from mid nov to end of march because i snowboard so much, i think it looks pretty good,

I have a yakima rack which i got @ REI. They are a bit pricey but solid and reliable! After the initial set-up last season it is a quick 2-5 min thing to install or take off the rack.
check out REI or yakima's website for info.
