seeking advice on buying an '01 audi a4 1.8t quattro
Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. So as the title states, I am faced with a dilemna. I recently visited a dealer who is asking $11000 for this model. It has 78000 miles on it. Everything seems to be working properly. The interior is in good condition as well as the exterior. The test drive was smooth and I took it to a nearby mechanic to have it inspected before I made my final decision. The dealer and I found out from the mechanic that both the tire rods and timing belt would soon need to be replacing and there is motor oil leaking out from somewhere in the car. Besides that, everything was in working condition. Before I left, the mechanic told me that I shouldn't buy this car due to the previous owner not taking care of it. He told me that it would be likely I would be facing other problems down the road.
I left the dealer and an hour later I received a call from him informing me that he took the vehicle to his own mechanic and fixed the leak. He told me that the problem was minor.
I know this is a long and meaningless post to you all. But I would really appreciate any advice given regarding this. Should I purchase the vehicle at the asking price? Walk away? Or negotiate it down to a lower price?
Thanks.
