to sell or not to sell...
So i'm really just looking for some opinions/ideas on this one here:
My car is a '97 black on black, 2.8 quattro, manual trans., with 140k miles. all new air cond. relatively new brakes, nothing really wrong with the car. Car purchased July 2005. Heater is non-functioning. All else is in decent condition/no real issues i see for now.
My friend is interesed in buying my car for about $6 or $7k.
My question is this:
I figure that after a certain amount of miles, its basically impossible to sell a car for any decent amount of money. I bought this car in July this past summer for about $8,000 total, then spent $400 to replace the air conditioning blower motor and the other parts in there. So i'm considering sellilng the car before 1. it gets too many miles to sell at all for a decent price, and 2. before i have to put more money into fixing stuff that should probably be fixed soon.
I'm thinking of just taking the money and then putting down a few more thousand to pick up a slightly newer model with less miles and hopefully less hassle than is impending on my current car?
So i'm curious if you've seen cars still sell after that many miles? or should i just take the money while i can and buy a newer model for maybe $11 or $12k (maybe a 2001 or 2000) with less miles and maybe less hassle.
Also, ( i know, 'do a search') but what should i be leary of with my car approaching 140k miles? How much will i be looking at spending on fixing stuff soon? Car has never been hard driven, but is probably due some service? (hasn't had a major look at since 110k miles.)
Like i said i'm really just looking for some thoughts and feedback here. Cuz i could basically see myself either selling this car asap before the miles gets too high, or just keeping it until its dead and doing all the maintanence that should be due soon. (basically giving up on selling it ever).
Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Thanks all.
Chris

never sell a car to a friend, unless you want to end the friendship.
If something breaks he will think you're responsible.

Dude honestly I didn't pay one bit attention to what you said, I was watching the girl it wasn't after a bit that I realized you actually had written something.

Ok, so what if it were just a random person that was interested in buying the car? I.e. if i told my friend, 'dude its got a lot of miles on it, just wait' and then could find a buyer for the same price...any opinions then?
