Short shirter self install?
Would it be overly difficult for me to self install a short shifter to save some money? I have no idea how the install goes but im sure there would be directions (question is how clear the directions are). I have a 98 2.8 by the way. And what brand do you recommend b&m, neuspeed, etc...
i have been trying to do mine for the last week. With a 98 (pre 99.5) u need to remove the center console. I can give u how to do this, i did it today and it took me like 30 mins. Its a few plugs and some wires to inplug. Then the shifter install is just some bolts but before u do anything makesure u have exactly what u need. (tool list on the insturctions). Its alot of simple stuff, but my first snag was teh center console removal and i did that today and i got to a bolt (the last one before to get out the sifter) an di stripped the last bolt. So i need to gte that taken out. Im having this done on monday and then i will finish everything up **knock on wood** on tuesday. Ill post a full review of the shifter (b&M) and of putting it in.
it usually is about a 2hour install, there are two nuts that are hiding under the console that you may or may not be able to reach...but to get to that stage is really easy; unscrew shift ****, pull off the shift boot, two screws to get the sound insulation pad out (I think they're 10mm and 13mm) and then the time consuming part. Definitely try it yourself first.
