Should Cam Adjuster need to be replaced at 42k?
I am very disappointed because my practically new just out of warranty Audi needs the following repairs.
1. Cam adjuster needs to be replaced. (What is apparently causing the startup noise) $1100 Parts and labor
2. Washer pump for headlight washer is cracked. To replace is $250 Parts and Labor
3. Thermostat and vacuum link are faulty (causes check engine light to go on) $225 Parts and Labor
$1575 Total
Couple of questions, how serious is the Cam Adjuster issue and how soon do I need to fix this? Has anybody else experienced this issue?
Also, I got a quote from a local supposedly reputable German Auto shop in the area regarding the Cam Adjuster and they want $900 for the repair (supposedly $500 parts and $400 Labor) and they also recommended changing the timing belt at the same time, which seemed ridiculous to me.
The service manual says to change these at 120K. Any recommendations as to when you should actually change these to be safe as well as the V-Belt which is supposed to be changed at 80k?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Had you taken your car in for the start-up noise while under warranty? If so, it should be covered.
Get parts over the net. Washer pump (not the nozzle, is a 20 or 30 dollar part, and it takes 30 minutes to replace it yourself.
NOt sure which thermostat or which vacuum link you mean.
